Today’s recording was a reminder that some of the most valuable conversations are often the ones you don’t expect to enjoy quite as much as you do.
We started by tackling a topic that, if I’m honest, has always felt a little opaque to me – insurance for MSPs. It’s one of those areas that sits in the background of every business, important but often misunderstood, and occasionally accompanied by a slight sense of unease.
That underlying nervous twitch didn’t last long.
Tim brought clarity, perspective and a very human approach to a subject that can easily feel overly technical or transactional. What stood out was how much of the conversation wasn’t just about policies or protection, but about understanding risk, responsibility and the realities of running a modern MSP.
It turned into a genuinely engaging discussion and, somewhat surprisingly for me, an enjoyable one too.
We then shifted gears into a completely different space, diving into the world of AI and AI roadmaps with Andrew Herbert.
Andrew is not only a friend, but also a fellow member of Entrepreneurs’ Organization and a fellow Bali resident, which made the conversation feel both familiar and insightful from the outset.
AI is one of those topics that is everywhere right now, but cutting through the noise to focus on practical application is where the real value lies. What I appreciated most about this conversation was the emphasis on direction rather than hype. Not just what AI can do, but how businesses should be thinking about it, planning for it and integrating it in a meaningful way.
It was a conversation grounded in experience, not just theory.
Moments like these highlight something I’ve come to value more and more – the diversity of conversations that come with building a platform like this.
On one hand, you have deeply practical, operational topics like insurance, risk and protection.
On the other, you have forward looking discussions about AI, strategy and what the future of our industry might look like.
Both matter.
And both are part of the same journey.
For many MSPs and leadership teams, it’s easy to focus purely on what’s urgent – the immediate challenges, the next client issue, the next quarter’s targets. But there is real value in stepping back and engaging with both ends of that spectrum. Understanding the foundations that protect your business, while also exploring the opportunities that will shape its future.
That balance is where growth happens.
It’s also where perspective comes from.
Days like today are a reminder of why we started the podcast in the first place. Not just to share knowledge, but to create space for conversations that challenge assumptions, spark ideas and bring different parts of the industry together.
And of course, none of this happens without the people behind the scenes.
Two more great episodes are now off to our awesome editor, Niall Mackay, and his team, who consistently turn these conversations into something polished and ready to share.
I’m always grateful for that part of the process – the unseen work that helps bring these discussions to a wider audience.
A huge thank you to Tim Stephinson and Andrew Herbert for joining us. Two very different conversations, both equally valuable, and both a great reminder of the breadth and depth of our industry.
