Clarity Over Complexity: Creating High-Value Partnerships in the MSP Channel
The MSP channel is full of opportunity. It brings together managed service providers, vendors, distributors, consultants, technology partners and customers—all working to create value. But when everyone is trying to sell, influence and grow at the same time, it can become complicated quickly. Nick Clift and I recently caught up with Moheb Moses to record an upcoming episode of the MSP Mastery: Ctrl-Alt-Deliver podcast. Our conversation explored what the MSP channel really is, how to leverage it effectively, and why strong relationships and clear alignment matter so much. Because the channel is not simply a route to market. At its best, it is an ecosystem of mutually beneficial relationships. Every party needs to understand what success looks like, where they fit, and how they contribute to a shared outcome. When that clarity is missing, activity can increase while results stall.

My post The MSP channel is full of opportunity.
It brings together managed service providers, vendors, distributors, consultants, technology partners and customers—all working to create value. But when everyone is trying to sell, influence and grow at the same time, it can become complicated quickly.

Because the channel is not simply a route to market.
At its best, it is an ecosystem of mutually beneficial relationships. Every party needs to understand what success looks like, where they fit, and how they contribute to a shared outcome. When that clarity is missing, activity can increase while results stall.
More meetings. More marketing. More offers. More noise.
But not necessarily more value.
Moheb’s new book, Everything I Know About Selling, I Learned From a Tennis Racquet, speaks directly to this. It is a practical perspective on selling as more than a role, a target or a quota.
Real selling is about trust. It is about influence, understanding people and creating alignment around an outcome that matters.
That is especially relevant in the MSP channel, where long-term success depends on relationships that extend beyond a single transaction. The strongest partnerships are built when people are clear on:
The value they bring to each other
The customer problem they are helping solve
Their respective roles and responsibilities
What a successful outcome looks like
How they will communicate, make decisions and stay accountable
This is also why clarity is such a powerful business tool.
In my own experience building, scaling and eventually exiting an MSP business, I saw how easily growth can create complexity. Without clear priorities, accountability and alignment, too much depends on individual effort—and often ends up back with the business owner.
The same is true of channel relationships.
When expectations are vague, people fill in the gaps with assumptions. When priorities compete, activity becomes fragmented. And when accountability is unclear, good opportunities can quietly slip away.
The answer is not necessarily more activity.
It is better alignment.
Clearer conversations. Better-defined roles. A shared understanding of the customer and the outcome everyone is working towards.
I am looking forward to sharing the full podcast episode soon.
The best partnerships are not built on more activity. They are built on more clarity.
